National Youth Service Policy Worldwide

As of 2008, no comprehensive database exists that can tell us how many countries have NYSP but ICP is working to gather this information and will make it available in our global youth service database. However, we do know that countries around the world have begun to implement national youth service programs to engage young people in community and national development, build their skills for the future and respond to critical community and national needs.

Today, a diverse group of countries have national youth service policies including: Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Venezuela, Djibouti, Ghana, Nigeria, New Guinea, Italy, China, Malaysia and the Philippines. Many more countries have yet to pass or implement a national youth service policy but are considering doing so.

In addition to our growing database of youth service policies and programs, ICP periodically undertakes research for country case studies. Below are a few examples of country case studies in addition to some older country summaries produced for the Ford Foundation workshop in 2001 that are available on our publications page.
